Chinatown Gua Sha Tips: Before, During and After Your Session

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese technique that uses a smooth board and oil to work along the back, shoulders and neck. At YueYue Beauty Spa in NYC Chinatown, sessions begin with a short chat so we understand where you feel tight and how much pressure you are comfortable with.

During the session, expect steady strokes rather than sudden force. Light redness or marks can appear on tight areas; they usually fade over a few days. If a spot feels too intense, say so at once — pressure is adjusted while we work, not afterwards.

Plan around your week. Many guests prefer gua sha on a day without heavy training, swimming, or a big evening out, so the skin has time to settle. Bring or wear a top that is easy to change out of, and allow a few extra minutes to rest before heading back out.

Afterwards, keep it simple: stay warm, drink water as usual, and avoid very hot baths or strong sun on the treated area for the rest of the day. Notice how your shoulders and neck feel over the next couple of days.

We are at 139 Centre St #7A, New York, NY 10013, about one minute from the Canal Street subway. Prices and durations are listed on our service pages, and staff speak English and Chinese.
